Final stretch for Jip de Jager Drive roadworks

Today the City of Cape Town’s Executive Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis and the Urban Mobility Mayoral Committee Member, Councillor Rob Quintas, visited Jip de Jager Drive in Welgemoed, Bellville, which is currently being upgraded into a dual carriageway. This visit formed part of the City’s 2024 Transport Month activities to highlight the progress the municipality is making with this major road infrastructure project. 

'We are in the final stretch of the major Jip de Jager Drive road upgrade project in Welgemoed, Bellville, and have visited the site today to see the amazing progress the team has made over the last few months.

'It is expected that this work will be completed in February 2025 when all road users will be able to experience the difference this major upgrade will make in easing traffic congestion in the area,' said Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis.

'The road surfacing work on Jip de Jager Drive is ongoing and remains on schedule and the team is also progressing well with the work at the intersections. We anticipate that traffic will be rerouted within the next two weeks onto new sections of the road under live traffic conditions, so residents can look forward to enjoying sections of the new road soon. I once again want to thank residents for their unwavering patience while the work has been under way and the support for our efforts in keeping Cape Town moving,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas,

The team has some remaining tasks from Jameson Road down to Van Riebeeckshof Road and the final finishes on the retaining walls are also in progress.

In terms of street lighting, the project team has confirmed that this is also on track for the due installation date. The road markings required also remain on schedule.
